The Foundry Tackles Nuclear Disarmament
with New Play “Treaty” and Expert Panel

West Stockbridge –  At a residency in May, The Foundry, a year round multidisciplinary performing arts venue in West Stockbridge, MA is collaborating with Ground Up Productions on a new piece of theater entitled Treaty: A Play About How Not to Blow up the Planet written by Chris Thorpe and performed with Seth Sheldon, General Counsel and United Nations Liaison for the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN). Ground Up Productions is a 19 year old non-profit, based in the West Village, NYC. The performances are on June 5 and 6 at 7:30PM.

After a chance meeting with a disarmament expert, playwright Chris Thorpe fell into the world of nuclear treaty negotiation, The Treaty On The Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, and the ordinary people who are trying to achieve the extraordinary outcome of complete nuclear disarmament. Based on conversations with organizations and individuals involved in those negotiations, including ICAN, the play is partly a story about the people on either side of the nuclear debate, and partly a conversation with the audience about how we find the space to talk about disarmament in our own lives.

After the performance, Seth Sheldon will facilitate a dialogue with the audience and a knowledgeable panel of informed individuals on the topic. Panel participants include Executive Director of NuclearBan.US Timmon Wallis, co-founder and Creative Director of NuclearBan.US Vicki Elson and Campaign Director of NuclearBan.US Anduin DeVos.
