Ballet, wardrobe hints and a showgirl unleashed are on stage in September at The Foundry in West Stockbridge

Berkshires Week

September at the Foundry is a genre mashup. You’ll see a performance of contemporary ballet fused with visual art, extreme forms of dressing for work, some colorful characters fighting to be who they are and a dog funeral area all on the schedule. Here are the details:

Broken Glass
Saturday, September 6, 7:30 p.m.

Ballets Metropolis presents “Broken Glass,” a groundbreaking multidisciplinary performance that fuses contemporary ballet with visual art to tell a powerful story of truth and trust, connection and separation, compromise and restoration. Featuring dancer Nicole Rose and music by David Noel Edwards.

What I Wore to Work, An Illustrated Memoir of Dressing to Undress
Friday, September 12, 7:30 p.m.

Jo Weldon’s fascination with the sex industry was aroused long before she started working in it. As an adolescent queer in an oppressively conservative environment, she was drawn to images and lore of erotic laborers. Find out what happened when this self-described “Fashion Whore-storian” followed the stiletto footsteps of her heroes into an underworld both more mundane and intriguing than expected.

Communion
Saturday, September 13, 7:30 p.m.

After a twice-extended developmental production, and an Off-Broadway debut, Matthew LaBanca’s confessional play, “Communion”  will play for one night only. Ripped from the headlines this one-man show is about a gay Catholic school teacher who is fired when the church discovers that he married a man. His termination causes a crisis of faith, not only for himself but for his entire community.

Kevin
September 18-19, 7:30 p.m.

“Kevin,” is a solo performance about struggling with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder as a woman and mother. Through the lens of colorful characters, this piece brings levity to an otherwise heavy topic and aims to normalize the complexity of living, surviving and thriving in life, despite having compromised brain chemicals.

Edie, Showgirl Unleashed!
Saturday, September 20, 7:30 p.m.

What does life hold for a performer who has performed over 5,600 shows in a Cirque du Soleil show that closed permanently during Covid? “Unleashed!” tackles “what’s next?” as Edie takes a look back at what lead her from her hometown of Portland, Oregon to the bright lights of New York City, and eventually to Las Vegas. The show is a high-energy, high-kickin’ semi-autobiographical look at a performer’s career through song, stories, comedy, videos, and lots of dance.

Dog Funeral
Friday, September 26, 7:30 p.m.

Zoe Wohlfeld, renowned professional mourner, showcases her talents with the saddest funeral she can imagine: a dog funeral. Sadness is Zoe’s passion, and Dog was Zoe’s best friend, so join this solemn ceremony and let Zoe show you how to pay respects with the big boys. May they rest in peace.

A Night of Drama
Saturday, September 27, 7:30 p.m.

A group of brave improvisers and clowns take to the stage, fueled by grand visions of a stunning dramatic masterpiece. Little do they know, the audience is armed, not with applause, but with a barrage of banana peels! This is the chaotic, side-splitting newest original work to come out of Jack & Zoe Comedy. Witness Jack Grossman, a determined live-director, desperately try to wrangle his company into a serious play. But between the audience’s playful bombardment of banana peels and the cast’s own comedic genius, his actions are ultimately thwarted as the night descends into a banana-filled clown coup.
