One of the Berkshires venues that always keeps us on the artistic edge is The Foundry in West Stockbridge. Their intimate space in the intimate downtown brings performers from the local area and beyond to test the limits of their art form and our imagination.
Programming in August is no exception. Here’s the rundown of shows on the calendar.
Magic & Malarkey with The Alans
Saturday, Aug. 2, 3:00 p.m.
In addition to some clearly adult content presented, The Foundry has a series of performances suitable for the whole family. The Alan’s Magic & Malarkey show has some fun props, jokes and how-did-they-do-that? magic for all ages.
In Cahoots, An Evening of Magic & Mentalism
Saturday, Aug. 2, 8:00 p.m.
The Alans are back, this time for the grown-ups. A blend of magic, mind-reading and comedy from Jason and Stacy Alan are up this evening. They aren’t just a world-class magician and mentalism duo—they’re a married team who bring their partnership chemistry, trust and experience to the stage.
Sova
Thursday, Aug. 21, 7:30 p.m.
Sova is a New York-based pianist and composer. Her stage name is short for Sophia Subbayya Vastek. A second generation pianist, she holds a deep reverence for music history while moving easily between classical training and her cinematic style.
Just Add Water
Friday, August 22, 7:30 p.m.
A genre-bending performance where you help write the script as it’s happening. Created and performed by performance artist Tom Truss, this family-friendly show fuses dance, theater and storytelling with live musical improvisation by composer and multi-instrumentalist Eric Shimelonis.
Drag Story Hour Berkshires
Saturday, Aug. 23, 3:00 p.m.
In this installment of the theater’s family-friendly program series, local drag artists Poppy DaBubbly, Bella Santarella and Vuronika Baked join Yuhua Hamasaki, a renowned drag queen who competed on the Emmy Award winning Season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race for an afternoon of family-friendly storytelling. Drag Story Hour Berkshires brings inclusive, imaginative storytelling to children and families across Western Massachusetts.
AN EVENING WITH Yuhua
Saturday, August 23, 7:30 p.m.
Yuhua is the drag queen you may remember from the Emmy Award winning Season 10 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. As seen on VH1’s “Big Ang,” CW’s “The Carrie Diaries,” CBS’ “Blue Bloods,” and recently with Katy Perry on “Saturday Night Live,” Yuhua Hamasaki has been entertaining for almost a decade. She has been featured in Vogue Italia, The Huffington Post, the New York Times and other major publications. She has also has been named as one of Time Out NY Magazine’s favorite queens and “Queen of the Year.”
